Fire Safe Cigarettes go into effect July 1
Fire Safe Cigarettes go into effect July 1
Fire Chief Scott Spencer of Payson reported that the Fire-safe Cigarettes were signed into law March 2007 and will become effective starting July 1, 2008. Smoking materials are the number one cause of fire deaths in the USA. Other states that have adopted fir-safe Cigarettes have seen a dramatic decline in fire deaths caused by cigarette fires.
The fire dept. will be checking businesses as well after July 1 to make sure they have made the switch and are not selling the older style Cigarettes. For More info you can go to http://firesafeCigarettes.org/itemDetail.asp?
Is it possible for a "fire-safe" cigarette to ignite furniture or bedding?
All Cigarettes have the potential to ignite fires, but the use of "fire-safe" technology provides a tremendous reduction in those risks. A fire-safe cigarette cuts off the burning time before most Cigarettes are able to ignite things like furniture or bedding material. The fire-safe cigarette goes out when it is put down.
