To such an extent in fact, that if it were sold in the form of Cigarettes they would be banned immediately in most countries… precisely because of their high toxicity ... Although, at first sight, a Virginia rolling tobacco may give the impression of producing a mild cigarette.
In reality nothing could be further from the truth. smokers are deceived by the thick smoke this tobacco produces. They believe in fact that they are dealing with a healthier product precisely because it is less industrial. But how wrong they are ! When you smoke a roll-up, the nicotine, tar and carbon monoxide output during combustion is 3 to 6 times higher than that of industrially manufactured Cigarettes. That’s right – three to six times higher !
For example, the tar content of a roll-up can be as high as 13 to 14 milligrams when using a thin paper. And it can be as much as 16 milligrams with heavyweight paper ! Substantially More than the 10 milligrams permitted for factory-produced Cigarettes. Such concentrations are unthinkable in industrial production, which is subject to a series of very rigorous controls. But obviously, where controls are concerned, roll-up tobacco is in an altogether different position.
